FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • We meet at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

Park in the main car park next to the lagoon, where you will see a building for toilets and a row of food trucks. Behind these is the area for tour groups and buses. Our car will be here with our logo visible and your guide waiting to welcome you.

  • For hike and kayak tours, it is best to wear comfortable clothes for hiking that will fit under the drysuit i.e. not too bulky. Usually, kayaking will feel colder than hiking and therefore it is nice to bring an extra layer (i.e. fleece, wool) that can be added before putting on the drysuit. A typical outfit for this tour is as follows:

    • Hiking boots and socks.

    • Extra thick socks for kayaking

    • Thermal underwear/leggings

    • Hiking pants

    • Thermal long sleeve top

    • Light midlayer or softshell jacket for hiking

    • Extra fleece/wool/puffy layer for kayaking

    • Hat

    • Gloves

We will go over the gear and clothing with everyone before departure to ensure that everyone is appropriately dressed.

We provide a drysuit and water shoes for paddling. We do not provide clothing or footwear for hiking. If your clothing or footwear is not appropriate for the tour, then this is a potential safety issue and you may be refused participation. Feel free to get in touch if you are unsure. It is always best to bring extra clothes with you in your car, and we can discuss what is best to wear upon arrival.

  • For full-day tours we recommend bringing food for lunch (e.g. sandwich plus high energy snacks i.e. nuts, chocolate) and 1L water.

For half-day tours it is not necessary to bring food, but you may bring some snacks if desired. We recommend bring a small water bottle (500mL).

  • Safety always comes first, and if the weather makes the tour unsafe then we will cancel the tour (full refund provided). We will always try to offer an alternative (e.g. half-day instead of full day, or an alternative lake) and you will have the choice whether to take a refund or join the alternate schedule.

Generally, wind is our worst enemy when kayaking as it makes the boats more difficult to control (and therefore it is unsafe to paddle close to icebergs). In strong winds the tour will likely be cancelled.

Rain does not make the tour unsafe, but it does make the kayaking feel colder. We are likely to shorten the tours on rainy days (e.g. from full-day to half-day)

  • Arriving later than the scheduled departure time will result in the cancellation of your booking and forfeiture of your payment. We recommend staying in the area (i.e. within 1h drive) the night before your tour.

  • Our tours are varied and can range from easy flatwater kayaking or short hikes to full blown multi-day expeditions, and as such the fitness requirements depend heavily on the activity in question. Generally, our tours focus on human-powered activities and therefore a basic level of fitness will be required. Detailed explanations of the fitness requirements are listed in the tour descriptions.

  • Generally, suitability for our tours is based around fitness rather than age, so we do not specify hard and fast age limits. However, children will be expected to take part in the tour in the same way an adult would (i.e. paddling their own boat, carrying their own backpack etc.) and therefore require the same fitness level as an adult to take part.

A general guideline may be that children should be at least 14 years old for half-day tours, and 16 years old for full-day tours. Please contact us if you have further questions.

  • We have a 48-hour no fee cancellation policy. Within 48 hours of the departure time, no refund will be provided if you cancel your booking.

If we cancel the tour for any reason (e.g. weather) then a full refund will be provided.
